APP to observe International Yoga Day

Itanagar, June 19: “Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) will be celebrating International Yoga Day (IYD) on June 21 at Chimpu Ground,” Director General of Police (DGP) of the state SBK Singh told the reporters here at the police headquarters on Tuesday. “Serving as police personnel in a state like Arunachal Pradesh is a challenge. It has different terrains, insurgency and law and order problems. This can be only be minimised by a sound mind in a strong body”, he added.

The event on IYD will include a yoga practice session following Common Yoga Protocol as mandated by Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) and release of the magazine Wellness First which includes snapshots of the state-wide efforts to practice yoga in 23 districts during its Wellness Month.

“We are also working on good service delivery to the people of state where every commoner can approach the police without fear. This is a medium through which we can deliver awareness to the people too, he said.”

APP has adopted a unique approach by culminating its first ever state-wide wellness month from May 21 to June 21 through its IYD celebration. In the past month, APP had organized free yoga practice sessions, health check-up camps, plantation drives, family fitness sessions and body conditioning and strengthening exercises’ for the police personals, he said.

“It is important for police and other forces to safeguard the interests of their community by maintaining sound mind and healthy body”, he added.

Around 300 participants will join in the Itanagar practice session, while 8000 plus APP families and officers in each of the 23 districts will be organizing the same celebrations and yoga practice sessions and take part in the month long activities of wellness month.
