Clarification on visually impaired student’s admission

Williamnagar, June 21:The principals of Rongrenggre Government Higher Secondary School and Williamnagar Government College, Williamnagar had clarified that their respective institutions denied admission to a visually impaired student on the basis of criteria for admission, a press release stated. The leading English dailies in the state carried a news-report that a visually impaired student, Chonkame Sangma, who passed the SSLC examination this year from Educere Secondary School, was denied admission in the Science stream by both Williamnagar Government College and Rongrenggre Government Higher Secondary School without mentioning the reason for the denial. As per the clarification made by both the institutions, the visually impaired student was denied admission in the Science stream as she had failed in Mathematics. “We have a criteria that to get admitted in Science, a student has to pass in both the Science and Mathematics with a minimum of 45% marks in SSLC examination” the clarification said, as per the press release.
