‘Think meeting’ held to discuss ways to minimize road mishaps

Bongaigaon, June 23: Greater Bongaigaon Press Club, in association with Road Safety committee of Bongaigaon district, organized a ‘Think meeting’ on Saturday to discuss and find a way to minimize the frequent road accidents.

The meeting was presided over by senior journalist Tajes Tripathy where several noted persons, including Deputy Commissioner Babulal Sarma, Superintendent of Police Hridayjit Barman, DTO Vaskar Dutta, Inspector of Schools Sadulla Khan, other noted persons of different fields, representatives of several student organizations, including AASU, AKRSU, ARSU, AMSU and AJYCP, representatives of political parties like AGP, BJP, CPM, and Congress, labour unions, and heads of several schools took part.

Addressing the gathering, lawyer Hareswar Das said that the roads should be expanded. Abdul Mannan, Principal of Bongaigaon HS School, said that as high speed driving was a major reason for accidents and usually young boys were involved in such accidents. So, educational institutions could prevent this by restricting entry of students driving bikes and cars.

Poor condition of roads was one of the main factors behind the increasing number of accidents claimed ARSU and AMSU leaders. IS Sadulla Khan said that as any person below 18 years of age was not eligible to get driving license, so schools should ban entry of students with vehicles. SP Barman in his speech assured that police were doing their level best and would continue to take steps to prevent accidents. He also appealed to people to help the police. DTO Vaskar Bora appealed to people to follow traffic rules during driving.
