KHNAM MLA surprised on exclusion from HLC

SHILLONG, June 24: MLA of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) from North Shillong constituency Adelbert Nongrum has expressed surprise as the state government has not included him in the High Level Committee (HLC) which is aimed at finding a solution on the issue of Them Iew Mawlaong (Sweepers Line).

Speaking, to The Sentinel, Nongrum said, “It’s a surprise because the government has not included me in the HLC despite being a local MLA of the said affected area of North Shillong constituency.”

“I want to pose a question to the state government, if there is something behind this decision,” he said adding that he will continue to track this issue and pressure the government to listen to the wishes of the people and that is to relocate the people residing at Thew Iew Mawlong.

He also said that people coming from outside should not interfere with issue and problems concerning the state ,as the government knows its own duty and what is the best interest of the people of Meghalaya and as an MLA I to have my own duty.

Nongrum urged those people coming from outside not to spread wrong information about the present situation in the capital city to other states of the country and around the world. He also urged the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to take up this issue seriously.
