Guwahati, June 24: The Ambubachi Mela has already stepped into the third day today. Already lakhs of devotees have thronged the Kamakha Temple premises. Devotees from not only from within the state or the country have been making a beeline to the Mela over the last few days, but some devotees have also come from a number of foreign countries to take part in the Mela.

Meanwhile, Bhandaras belonging to various organizations are having a busy time in catering to the food and water needs of the devotees.

According to City Commissioner of Police Hiren Nath, today being a Sunday, the crowd at the Mela has assumed massive proportion. Further, since no one is allowed to proceed beyond the Nilachal foothill after 12 midnight, it could be possible that greater number of people are thronging the mela during day time, he observed. He further said that that on account of the huge rush today, the visitors had to be stopped from moving ahead for sometime; but soon with the help of volunteers the movement restarted and that it was proceeding smoothly.

The police chief has also appealed to the people coming to the city or moving out of the city to use the by-pass to avoid the congestion.

Further, on account of the huge rush, the Deputy Commissioner has appealed to the parents and guardians not to bring their minor siblings to the Mela.
