Dispur Police question guests present in Taj Vivanta event

GUWAHATI: Dispur Police have started interrogating the guests who were present in the event held at luxury hotel Taj Vivanta on October 1.

Dispur Police on Monday interrogated businessman Rishi Baruah and contractor Pankaj Sadhanidhar. According to police sources, Pankaj Sadhanidhar had thrown a birthday bash for his daughter at Taj Vivanta on October 1. It has been alleged that the event continued till late at night, violating COVID protocol and curfew timings. Rajkanya Baruah was allegedly returning from that event in an inebriated condition when she hit nine labourers at Rukminigaon with her car.

Later, Pankaj Sadhanidhar told media persons, "There is a rumour that I have fled the city and I am not cooperating with the police in the investigation. There is no truth in this rumour. I am still in the city and whenever the police have called me for questioning I have come and cooperated with the police in every possible way."

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (metro) district administration had given Taj Vivanta seven days to submit the CCTV camera footage and the guest list of the event that was organized in the hotel on October 1 evening. Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (metro), Biswajit Pegu told media persons that the hotel management had submitted the details. "We will first go through all the details and footage and then comment on the issue. If we find anything amiss, we will take necessary action against the hotel."
