Education Minister Ranoj Pegu visits AEC campus, interacts with principal, hostel warden

GUWAHATI: Education Minister of Assam, Ranoj Pegu visited the Assam Engineering College (AEC) and inspected the security details in the institution. He also interacted with several officials of the institution to ensure that such incidents do not repeat in the future. The Principal of the institution as well as the hostel wardens took part in this meeting.

“Visited Assam Engg College and discussed with the Principal and Hostel Wardens about the tragic accident where 7 students of AEC lost their lives. Govt has already instituted an enquiry. The scope of the enquiry will cover all other Engineering Colleges of the state, too,” announced the minister over Twitter.

Extending the scope of the ongoing investigation regarding the hostels, the minister said that it will not only cover the Assam Engineering College but also all the polytechnics and engineering colleges of the state. He also gave a deadline of 15 days for the Director of Technical Education (DTE) for presenting the reports of the same.

He added that the department will find the loopholes in the system as soon as possible and take necessary steps to take care of the same as soon as possible. He also mentioned about the installation of CCTV cameras at key points to ensure safety as the Assam government is very serious in regard to the matter.
