Guwahati's Pub-Sarania & Dhirenpara declared as 'Containment Zones'

Guwahati: After the detection of Covid-19 positive cases in Pub-Sarania and Dhirenpara localities of Guwahati city, the areas have been marked as containment zones on Saturday following the detection of COVID-19 cases in the area and Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu directed the circle officer, Guwahati revenue circle to seal the areas with immediate effect.

The boundaries of the containment zone in Pub Sarania are as follows:

North: Bhabananda Deka Road

South: South Sarania Road

East: Pramatesh Baruah Road

West: Residence of Sri Chittaranjan Datta and others

North: Residence of Nabajit Barman and Bihuram Boro

South: Residence Kamakhya Prasad Gupta and others

East: Residence of Mohammad Abul Ali

West: A.K. Dev Road

It is pertinent to mention here that the Kamrup (M) district administration earlier today untagged a containment zone in the Tarun Nagar locality as a containment zone after no new cases were detected in the past couple of weeks. the Dinesh Ojha Path in Tarun Nagar locality in Guwahati city of Assam was marked as a containment zone on Saturday, May 23. Another containment zone in Bhootnath was also unsealed earlier at the orders of the Deputy Commissioner.

At the time of filing of this report, Assam has registered 1,513 cases of the Covid-19 and 4 deaths related to the respiratory illness. At the same time, 324 persons have been discharged after recovering and 3 others have been migrated, leaving the actual number of active patients in the state at 1,182.

However, with the arrival of Shramik Special trains in Barak Valley in the recent past, Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that there could be an uptick in the number of cases in the coming few days. "In the coming one-two days, we could get a few more cares of the virus. Three special trains headed from Mumbai, Darul Ulum, and Nanda Dwar brought Assam citizens to the areas of Hojai and Barak Valley and those samples are awaited. But otherwise, the detections of new patients and released patients have almost reached a stage of balance. Yesterday, 129 patients were detected, but 99 patients were also released. Additionally, the death rate in Assam is less than .3%", Biswa Sarma, on a visit of Lower Assam's Dhubri, told media.

Meanwhile, the death toll due to Covid-19 has risen to 5,598 and the number of cases has climbed to 198,706 in the country. While the recovery rate in India is progressively increasing and has reached 48.19% amongst coronavirus patients, the Union health ministry said.
