Jalukbari Car Accident: AEC Issues New Strict Rules for Hostel Boarders

GUWAHATI: On May 29, a speeding SUV collided with a pick-up truck, killing seven engineering students and injuring six more.

The incident happened close to the Jalukbari flypast in the city. According to authorities, the pick-up truck was coming from one side when the fast SUV drove over the road divider and collided with it.

After the incident, the administration of the Assam Engineering College (AEC) in Guwahati's Jalukbari district has issued a new set of stringent restrictions for hostel boarders.

The police administration is permitted by the new regulations to pick up any boarder of Hostels who is discovered outside the campus after the allotted period and without authorization for a legitimate reason.

Here are the new rules of AEC Hostel Borders:

1. Strict adherence to current guidelines will help to keep the dorm or campus in check. After proper consultation with all parties involved, a new charter of guidelines for hostel borders will be released.

2. To maintain boarders' attendance, departure, admission, and exit times, monitoring Teams will be set up to look for boarders who may have left the dorm without authorization from the authorities, and disciplinary action will be taken for such absences with prompt notification to the parents.

3. Consuming alcohol or drugs inside dorms or on campus is prohibited. Anyone determined to be involved will be kicked out of the dorm/college. Will also be given to the police. The Pass Certificate for them will show the same.

4. Boarders of the hostels are not permitted to park motorcycles, bicycles, or cars on the campus of the hostel or college for regular usage by any boarders or students of AEC.

5. The hostel boundary wall to be planned in consultation with all stakeholders and government.

6. Selling of drugs and alcohol inside the campus strictly prohibited with the help of Police administration.
