State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) scam: Arrested 4 in police remand

GUWAHATI: The four people who were arrested by the Chief Minister Vigilance Cell (SVC) for allegedly blackmailing Sewali Devi Sharma, the prime accused in the Rs 105 crore scam in the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Assam, were produced before the court on Wednesday. The court sent them into three days of police custody.

As per sources, two of the four are journalists, Pujamoni Das and Bhaskar Jyoti Hazarika, and the other two are RTI activists, Rabijit Gogoi and Anup Saikia. On the other hand, two were called for grilling on Wednesday.

According to sources, the CM’s SVC has summoned the coordinators and principals of the educational institutions offering the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) course under Open Distance Learning (ODL). The CM’s SVC is verifying the documents, and the District Institutes for Education and Training (DIET) were summoned to examine the documents, which the principals or coordinators submitted on Wednesday.
