Students, parents appeal Dispur to ban tobacco products

GUWAHATI: To create awareness among the common people, mainly youth on the effect of tobacco and tobacco products, Consumers' Legal Protection Forum, Assam on Sunday released a video on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day (WNTD). Students and parents from different part of the State participated in the programme. Through the video, they appealed the Government of Assam to save the lives of young generation by banning smoke and smokeless tobacco products and implement Tobacco Vendor Licensing in the whole State as early. Students and parents appealed the tobacco users that this is the high time to quite tobacco because spitting in public places and smoking increase the chances of spreading COVID-19. Apart from the video campaign, a poster campaign is also done by the students and parents from different part of the State and demand to protect youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use.

They raised voice against the policies taken by the tobacco industries and said 'tobacco industry is targeting new generation', 'tobacco products kill more than 8 million people every year', 'tobacco use is responsible for 25 percent of all cancer deaths globally', 'though the tobacco products killed 8 million people each year, so tobacco industry target a new generation with their tricks and tactics'. Both in the video and poster campaign students and parents urged all tobacco users to' say no to smoke or smokeless tobacco', ' stop buying tobacco and tobacco products', 'choose health not tobacco'.
