Jaipur: Section 144 of the code of criminal procedure (CrPC) have been imposed by the Rajasthan government on June 28 for the next one month.

This order comes in the wake of a brutal incident wherein a tailor was mercilessly beheaded at his shop in Udaipur and this gruesome act has triggered massive outrage in the entire state of Rajasthan.

According to reports, a special investigation team (SIT) was set up by the state government in order to investigate the matter.

Internet services were suspended across the state so as to keep the law and order situation under control after protests flared up across the state after the incident took place.

"In view of the prevailing situation, Section 144 has been imposed in the entire district as well as the state. Shanti March has been cancelled by the organizers. We appeal to the people to maintain peace. Leaves of police personnel have been cancelled and they have been asked to report back. They are being deployed in law and order duty. We will ensure peace is maintained and take strict action against those attempting to disrupt it," the superintendent of police (SP) Ajmer, Vikas Sharma told the media.

Police have been put on high alert in every district of Rajasthan and security has been beefed up across the state.

Earlier, a team from the national investigation agency (NIA) rushed to the site of the incident after orders from the Ministry of home affairs (MHA).

The team is likely to slap charges under the provisions of the unlawful activities (prevention) act after visiting the crime scene.

Notably, two extremists beheaded a local tailor on June 28 after he put up a social media post demonstrating support for the former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who was suspended after she made derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammad.

The assailants have been identified as Riyaz Akhtar and Ghos Mohammad, while the victim has been identified as Kanhaiya Lal.

The police informed that Akhtar attacked the victim with a sharp weapon and Mohammad recorded the incident on his mobile phone.

Thereafter, the duo posted the video on social media wherein they can be seen bragging about the beheading and they also threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi in it.

"Both the accused have been detained and the law and order situation is under control. Some people were attempting to come out of the bylanes but were controlled. Curfew imposed in the nearby areas," the SP of Udaipur, Manoj Kumar said.
