5 more COVID-19 patients dead in Assam, death toll rises to 21

Guwahati: Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today informed that five more persons in the state have died due to complications from the COVID-19 virus.

Four patients passed away at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the wee hours of the morning today. The deceased have been identified as Safikul Rahman (60) of Hidayatpur in Guwahati,  Romoni Mazumdar (60) of Patacharkuchi, Utpal Kumar Chaliha (75) of Khahilipara in Dispur, and Hari Prasad Mandal (68) of Lalganesh in Guwahati. They were admitted to the Covid Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and succumbed to their critical infections earlier in the morning today -- between 2 am and 5 am. "They all were on invasive ventilation, had severe pneumonia, urosepsis, and septic shock", Bisa Sarma informed.

"Condolences. Sad to inform that Jitendra Prasad (30) from Majbat, Udalguri admitted on July 7 at Tezpur Medical College, with features of Septicaemia in shock with history of herbal medication, became victim of COVID-19. So sad to see young lives being lost", Sarma wrote in another tweet.

"My heartfelt condolences to families and relatives of four more victims of COVID-19. These are trying times, and we all must adhere to guidelines being repeatedly given - wearing mask, social distance, and not going out unless very important", Biswa Sarma wrote in a tweet. 

Yesterday, The COVID-19 toll in Assam on Tuesday rose to 15 after a 40-year-old hailing from Koliabor in Nagaon passed away in the morning after a brief battle with the respiratory illness. "Very sad to inform that another COVID-19 positive patient Sri Dhadaram Mura (40) of Koliabor, Nagaon admitted in GMCH Covid ICU on July 1, succumbed to the infection today at 9 am. He was on invasive ventilation; had severe pneumonia and septic shock. My condolences to Mura family", Sarma wrote in a tweet, shedding light on the COVID-19 related death.

Devi Kakati of Kamrup, who was was admitted to 151 Base Hospital, Basistha, on July 2 and diagnosed COVID-19 along with Type II Diabetes and hypertension, became the second casualty of the day.
