A noble initiative: Spreading the message of Vivekananda through book fair

SILCHAR: The book Fair that began at Karimganj on Friday has come as a great relief to the lovers of books of varied interest after a long spell of the Covid pandemic. But, the noblest of the initiative has been the opening of a bookstall dedicated to Vivekananda and his thoughts to spread the message of the great saint and seer, particularly among the youths, to imbibe in them the sense of discipline and service to society, besides inspiring them with the qualities of a perfect man to give leadership to people caught in unrest and turmoil.

To know Swami Vivekananda, one has to read the books on his life, philosophy and ideals. His books have to collect and read with full concentration. This was the advice given by Dibyuendu Maharaj of the Ramkrishna Mission of Karimganj. He said what the great saint has preached and given to us just in 40 years of his life is an invaluable treasure of knowledge for the welfare of humanity.

He added, 'Our objective behind the opening of bookstall is not commercial but to spread the message of Vivekananda.' He called upon the elders to guide and advise the young generation.

On this occasion was present Nikhil Das, assistant coordinator of Vivekananda Kanya Kumari Kendra, said, 'Our effort will only succeed if visitors to the fair have a copy of the book on Vivekananda to take home.'

Dr Sharmistha Khajanchi, looking after the literary section, said, 'This is our third bookstall after our four-day stall during Durga Puja on a larger scale.' Arup Das, chief of the town committee, pointed out with a limited number of books, the mission was started. He expressed his gratitude to the fair committee for making available space in the book fair free of any charge. Others present at the inaugural function were Prabal Kanti Deb, Mitali Nath, Partha Das and Debjyoti Das.
