GUWAHATI: On the occasion of 72nd Republic Day, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and health, finance, education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conveyed their greetings and best wishes to the people of the state.

Chief minister Sonowal urged the people to pledge together to realise the dreams of an aspirant India and establish the nation as the 'Bishwaguru'.

In a tweet, the minister mentioned, "Happy 72nd #RepublicDay

Greetings to all citizens. On this auspicious day, let us pledge to together realise the dreams of an aspirant India and establish our great nation as the Bishwaguru,"

Meanwhile, Himanta Biswa Sarma also greeted the citizens on Republic Day.

"#गणतंत्र_दिवस की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं। #HappyRepublicDay ~ On this special day, let's rededicate ourselves to the ideals of justice, freedom and equal rights for all, as we salute all those great men & women who gave us our Constitution," he stated in a tweet.

On the other hand, PM Modi congratulated those who have been conferred the Padma Awards and said, "We are proud of all those who have been conferred the Padma Awards. India cherishes their contribution to the nation and humanity at large. These exceptional individuals from different walks of life have brought qualitative changes in the lives of others."

Along with the entire nation, Republic Day is being celebrated across Assam. The central event to mark the 72nd Republic Day in Assam was organized in Guwahati at the Khanapara ground.

Governor Jagdish Mukhi unfurled the tri-colour and inspected the guard of honour. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, senior officials of the Army and Indian Air Force, Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua, Lok Sabha MP from Guwahati Queen Oja among other eminent personalities were present at the celebrations that started at 9 AM.

Governor Mukhi inspected the parade and addressed the gathering on the occasion. A cultural programme was organized where patriotic songs were also performed.
