Assam: COVID Care Centre set up in Barpeta exclusively for treatment of cops

Guwahati: Amid a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases among Assam Police personnel, the Assam state government has set up a COVID Care Centre in Lower Assam's Barpeta, exclusively for the treatment of cops.

This spanking new COVID Care Centre that shall cater to the health needs of the infected personnel, shall have 50 beds.

Additionally, to prepare for dip in oxygen levels among the infected personnel, facilities have also been made available to administer oxygen if and when required.

This new centre was today launched by Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Assam's Director General of Police (DGP).

Addressing media persons during the launch, Mahanta confirmed what many of us already knew: most of the COVID-19 positive cases among personnel have been detected among Guwahati cops.

It needs mention here that so far, 1,200 Assam police officials and staffers have tested positive for the dreaded COVID-19 that is believed to have sprung to humans in the animal markets in Wuhan, China.

According to reports, 500 Assam police personnel are undergoing treatment for the infection in the state.

At the same time, many Assam Police officials have also donated convalescent plasma after recovering from the respiratory infection. 40 more are expected to donate to the plasma bank very soon.

Although the Assam Police's fight against the dreaded virus has been a saga of triumph over adversity, 4 of the police force's corona warriors passed away due to complications from the virus.

It needs mention here that the state registered 2,371 cases yesterday out of which 414 have been reported from Kamrup (Metro), which is the district that has been unquestionably hit the hardest by the onset of the virus in Assam.

Notably, the government of Assam has achieved conducting one million COVID-19 tests since February 2020.
