Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that the state government would soon build a guest house and a floating solar power project in Son Beel areas.

''Seeing the Son Beel in Karimganj, considered one of Asia's largest freshwater lakes, and considering its huge tourism potential, we have decided to build a good guest house and a floating solar power project in beel areas,'' he tweeted after his visit to Karimganj.

In April this year, Karimganj Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav submitted a proposal amounting to Rs 60 crore for the development of Son Beel as a tourist destination.

"There are many line department projects incorporated into the initial report, including forest, agriculture, water resource, fishery and tourism development. Initially, we are submitting a concept paper and once it has been sanctioned, more detailed and micro-level project details will be prepared", Yadav said.

The shimmering water of the freshwater lake coupled with the natural beauty of the hills surrounding it, a vibrant fishing community with rich folk culture and a wide avian and Piscean population makes the area in southern Assam's Karimganj district an ideal tourist spot.

During his visit to Karimganj, the CM reviewed the flood situation with the district administration and asked them to conduct a survey on damage caused to public properties.

''During my visit to Karimganj, I reviewed the flood situation there with the district administration.

Asked DC to start a survey on damage caused to houses & fisheries by flood and complete it urgently to enable us to undertake early rehabilitation once the floodwaters recede,'' he said in another tweet.

Sarma also reached out to affected people of flood-hit Srirampur village in Karimganj by boat which is still submerged.

He further appreciated the resilience of people who are facing such a difficult situation.

''Reached out to affected people of flood-hit Srirampur village in Karimganj by boat as its surroundings are still submerged.

Impressed to see the resilience of people who are coping with their hardships. Asked the DC to take necessary steps for relief,'' he tweeted.
