Assam-Meghalaya CMs Discusses Inter-state Border Dispute

The meeting was also attended by Chairmen & members of the Regional Committees to discuss developments so far.

Informing about the meeting, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote on Twitter, "Meeting with the Hon'ble CM of Assam Sh.@himantabiswa Ji on the Meghalaya-Assam border issue alongside Chairmen & members of the Regional Committees to discuss developments so far".

He also informed that "The Chairmen of the 3 Regional Committees of both States will conduct meetings, hold consultations with stakeholders, make site visits and will submit the report of their findings by 20th October 2021".

The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also wrote, "To ensure lasting solution to border issues in true spirit of brotherhood, held a VC with HCM Meghalaya Sri @SangmaConrad. Six Regional Committees formed earlier (3 from each state) will complete joint inspections in areas of difference by Oct 20 for mutually agreeable solutions".

Earlier a total of three panels have been formed by the Governor of Meghalaya, Satya Pal Malik. The reason for the formation of these three regional committees is to examine the status of six disputed areas that are located along the inter-state Assam-Meghalaya border. Each of the 3 regional panels will be headed by a Cabinet Minister of Meghalaya as per the statements of an official.
