Assam: Prisoner of Guwahati Central Jail Flees From GMCH

Guwahati: On Wednesday night, a prisoner of Guwahati Central Jail was undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), escaped from the hospital and is now untraceable.

The prisoner, identified as Bijay Debnath, was currently under trial and hails from the district of Hojai, Assam. Bijay Debnath was admitted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital after he complained of pain in his abdomen.

According to sources, Debnath was diagnosed with gallbladder disease. 

It has also been reported that Debnath was guarded by a policeman during his treatment and was not handcuffed. 

The information on how he managed to escape has not been known. 

Further, the police have refused to reveal any information at the moment.

Earlier this month, a thief was injured while trying to flee from police in Azara.

The accused received bullet injuries after the police had to fire in self-defence on Sunday. He is involved in a number of cases of robbery and dacoity. The thief was recently arrested by a team of Azara police in Bharalumukh. The team of police was led by the Officer-in-charge of Azara Police Station, Tapan Kalita.

The accused has been identified as Akashdeep Singh. According to sources, Akashdeep tried to flee after he was brought to assist the police in an anti-thief operation launched to tackle thieves in the area. He is currently undergoing treatment at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
