Guwahati: A group of investigating scholars have rediscovered a rare snake named ' blue-bellied kukri ' in Manas National Park after an era of 112 years.

As per reports, the snake was last spotted in July 1908 in West Bengal's Tindharia village which is around 267 km in the west direction of Manas.

Deepak Veerappan, a herpetologist, shared this story on social media informing that this scarce variety of species was found by his team members at the eminent Manas National Park.

He further added that this rare snake was first described back in 1909 on grounds of two samples and subsequently there were no accounts of this variety of snake. Veerappan stated in a tweet that the colour of the snake is brown which is in the collection of BNHS and NHM.

This species, known as Oligodon Melaneus of the Animalia kingdom of the Colubridae family, was recently recaptured in Assam after 112 long years subsequently its original elaboration in 1909.

Earlier in August 2021, another fresh species in the snake family was located in Assam after a period of a century. A handful group of scientists coming from India, the USA, and the UK spotted this major discovery.

As per reports, this snake has a distinguishing feature with its red marking on the back symbolizing the unique beauty of Indian women in red bindi wearing on their foreheads.

Abhijit Das of India's Wildlife Institute stated that a major part of discoveries consisting of the zoological specimens have been coming across largely in parts of northeastern states of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh and many more to be explored in the state of Assam.
