CM to inaugurate state-of-the-art Farmers' Training Centre on Krishak Swahid Divas

MANGALDAI: This year's celebration of Krishak Swahid Divas at Pothorughat in Darrang district on January 28 will be a different and significant one unlike previous celebrations. Taking part in the celebration as the chief guest, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the newly-constructed state-of-the-art 'Farmers' Training Centre' with hostel facility constructed in memory of the 140 KrishakSwahids who offered supreme sacrifice while raising their voice in a peaceful manner before tyrant British rulers at Pothorughat on January 28, 1894.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while taking part in the KrishakSwahid Divas celebration in 2017, made an open declaration to construct a 'Farmers' Training Centre' at Pothorughat and also announced to sanction an amount of Rs. 7 crore. The State Government is planning to transform the KrishakSwahid memorial into a place of tourist attraction.

Meanwhile, the district administration and police have taken up all initiative to make the KrishadSwahid Divas celebration a mega event. Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah and Superintendent of Police AmritBhuyan have personally been supervising the progress of the celebration. Officials of the district Agriculture department are also taking initiatives to make the celebration a unique one with exhibition of agro products.

"The proposed 'Farmers' Training Centre' to be dedicated to the people of Darrang district will be a state-of-the-art centre where farmers from across the State will be imparted training on modern agriculture with farming. The government is highly interested to transform our rural agricultural farmers into agri-preneurs and all the required training and assistance will be provided in this centre. While taking part in the residential training here in Pothorughat, the participating farmers will be able to realize the spirit, courage and sacrifice of the rural farmers who took part in the historic peasants' rebellion at Pothorughat 127 years back," said Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah while talking to The Sentinel on Monday at Pothorughat. He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police AmritBhuyan, Chief Executive Officer of DarrangZilaParishad, RamaniMalakar and Assistant Commissioner Monika Borgohain.

Meanwhile, all the farmers and people of the district have expressed their satisfaction over the timely completion of the construction of the Farmers' Training Centre at Pothorughat and gratitude to Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal for his praiseworthy initiative. During the tenure of SarbanandaSonowal as the president of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), the AASU, with the active cooperation of the people of the district in 1994, organized the centenary celebration of KrishakSwahid Divas at Pothorughat.
