Kokrajhar district magistrate issues travel restriction to Guwahati

KOKRAJHAR: In view of the increasing number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Guwahati of Kamrup (metro), the District Magistrate and chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kokrajhar, Bhaskar Phukan, in exercise of the powers conferred under section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, has imposed restriction on back and forth journey of people from Kamrup (M) to Kokrajhar district and vice versa under general circumstances in the interest of maintenance of public health, hygiene and safety of the general.

In the order, Phukan said a large number of COVID-19 positive cases had been detected in Kamrup (M) district leading to the subsequent imposition of total lockdown in the district to contain the spread of COVID-19; whereas, it has been observed that people are travelling from Kokrajhar to Guwahati and vice versa by private buses and private vehicles regularly and therefore, it is felt necessary to restrict travelling back and forth from Kamrup (M) to Kokrajahr district and vice versa to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Kokrajhar district.

However, travelling back and forth from Kamrup (M) to Kokrajahr district and vice versa on genuine medical ground and essential government services have been exempted from the purview of this order, subject to adherence of protocol related to COVID-19. All heads of departments, Kokrajhar will ensure that no back and forth journey of officials and staff of their department to Kamrup (M) will take place until further order and any such unauthorized movement must be immediately brought to the notice of the DDMA for further necessary action, the order said. This order has come into force and will remain in force until further order.
