Land Mafia Attack In Nagaon Leaves 7 People Severely Injured

Nagaon: In a horrifying incident, seven people including three women were severely injured in a deliberate attack carried out by the land mafia in Mohkhuli in Assam's Nagaon district.

Reportedly, the mastermind of this attack is a ferocious land mafia going by the name of Joynal Abedin and the attack was carried out on his orders.

The attack was carried out using sharp weapons as a result of which the victims have been left in a dire state. They were reportedly admitted to the Nagaon Civil Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

The victims were identified as family members of three men identified as Abdul Qadir, Abdul Bashid, and Matibur Rahman. Notably, the attackers also damaged the properties of the victims with Abdul Qadir's home and furniture completely in shatters. It was an effort to instill fear in their minds so that they would flee from their property and the mafia would then capture the vacant land.

On the night of September 20,  2021, a total of 453 land brokers were arrested by the Assam Police from various parts of the state. Dhubri district topped the list with 30 arrests, followed by Morigaon 27, Nalbari 27, and Guwahati 22. Another 18 were arrested from the Dibrugarh district.

This is part of a campaign led by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma himself to wipe out the menace of the land mafia prevailing in the state. He has pledged to eradicate the land brokers who indulge in unlawful activities involving land sale, purchase, and holding.

"We strive to identify the black sheep amongst government personnel involved along with ascertaining unlawful backward and forward linkages of the persons arrested and take further action thereafter," said Special Director General of Police G.P. Singh.

The CM has also instructed the Revenue and Disaster Management Department officials to eliminate middlemen from land-related work so that the citizens can complete their land-related without difficulty.
