In an effort to help citizens in accessing transportation-related services while maintaining social distance, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has extended the validity of documents linked to the Motor Vehicles Act 1989 until September 30. 

In a series of tweets, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari announced the extension of the Motor Vehicles Act's validity. 

To help citizens in availing transport-related services while maintaining social distancing, the validity of documents related to Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 has been further extended till 30th Sept 2021, announced the Union Minister. 

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued advisories on the 30th of March, 2020, the 9th of June, 2020, the 24th of August, 2020, the 27th of December, 2020, and the 26th of March, 2021.

It was suggested that the validity of Fitness, Permit (all sorts), License, Registration, or any other relevant document(s) might be extended until June 30, 2021. 

This applies to any documents whose validity has expired since February 1st, 2020, or will expire by September 30th, 2021. It is recommended that enforcement agencies accept such documents as valid until September 30th, 2021. 

Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Transport, Industry, and Commerce in the Assam Cabinet, announced that he had reviewed the Transport Department's activities and directed for strict enforcement of Road Safety Rules by checking overspeeding, checking overloading, and improving Revenue Collection by preventing evasion of Road Tax, Permit renewals, and so on. 

The minister also announced that the Transport Department is dedicated to enforcing motor vehicle laws and taking action against threats such as overloading. In addition, authorities who are irresponsible will face consequences.

Karimganj's DTO and Enforcement Inspector have been suspended for dereliction of duty. 

After peaking at over 4.15 lakh daily instances on May 7, India's second wave has decreased, with 62,480 viral infections reported as of Friday morning, according to a 24-hour update. The number of active cases has also gone below the 8-lakh mark after more than 70 days. With daily deaths also decreasing below the 2K mark, many people feel the worst is over.
