'State Government has targeted to complete implementation of JJM schemes by 2023'

LAKHIMPUR: Minister for Public Health & Engineering Department (PHED), Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Sunday dedicated four Pure Water Supply Schemes (PWSSs) implemented under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Lakhimpur district. These PWSSs are-- No. 2 Raonapur PWSS under Bogolijan Gaon Panchayat (GP) of Lakhimpur Development Block covering 207 households, Boichakonwar Gaon PWSS under Lakhimpur GP of Lakhimpur Development Block covering 434 households, Gharmora PWSS under Lakhimpur GP of Lakhimpur Development Block covering 429 households and Ujjalpur Kachipathar PWSS under Ujjalpur GP of Lakhimpur development Block covering 138 households. These four PWSS will supply pure drinking water to a total of 1108 families through Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC).

The Minister inaugurated these PWSSs simultaneously and dedicated them for public services arriving at the Gharmora PWSS premises. Addressing the public in the ceremonial function organized on this occasion, Ranjeet Kumar Dass said that the State Government had targeted a total of 63,00,000 families across the State to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections.

"The JJM is the outcome of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream of converting the house to home for every family of the nation with required facilities.

The Mission is envisioned to provide safe drinking water to all households in rural India by 2024. But Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has initiated steps to achieve the goal of this Mission by 2023 in the State and he has already instructed the PHED to implement the schemes with rapid progress for the same", Ranjeet Kumar Dass stated.

He added that the programme would also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through greywater management, water conservation, rainwater harvesting.

"The Mission will be based on a community approach to water and will include extensive information, education and communication as a key component of the mission", the Minister further asserted. He said that the Mission would cover 2,16,519 families in the Lakhimpur district. Out of them, safe drinking water is provided to almost 46,900 and the rest 1,79,000 families will be covered by JJM schemes in the upcoming days at the earliest. He added that a total of 518 schemes would be implemented shortly across the State.

Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka also delivered a lecture in the function wherein Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, Bihpuriya MLA Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, Lakhimpur district unit BJP president Phanidhar Baruah, social activist Haren Deuri, Lakhimpur Division PHED Executive Engineer Mukul Sonowal and other officers and employees were present.

Later, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who is also the Minister for Panchayat & Rural Development, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, took part in a review meeting in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office in the presence of officers and employees of the departments concerned. In the meeting, Deputy commissioner Sumit Sattawan, Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley, Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka, Bihpuriya MLA Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, representative of Naoboicha MLA Bharat Narah, ADC Manorama Morang, Lakhimpur Zila Parishad chairperson Manju Borgohain, CEO Tripurendra Pator, DIPRO Mandira Chayengiya were present.
