Rs 250 crore for Silchar railway station facelift

SILCHAR: To upgrade Silchar railway station to world class terminus, Rs 250 crore had been sanctioned by the government, stated P K Krishnadas, chairman of Passengers Amenities Committee of Indian Railways. Krishnadas said, apart from Silchar, Guwahati and Rangia railway stations had also been chosen for such mega project. Rs 280 crore for Guwahati and Rs 200 for Rangia railway station had been sanctioned. Altogether 52 stations of the entire country would have such massive facelift, informed Krishnadas who visited Silchar station on Thursday. Rs. 17 thousand crores had been earmarked for the entire project, he added.

He said, the Details Project Report (DPR) for the remodelling of Silchar railway station would be approved by 2023 and the first phase of work would be complete by March 2024. The remodeled station would have sophisticated waiting room, cafeterias and other modern amenities like airports.

Meanwhile, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty handed over a memorandum to the PAC chief demanding immediate replacement of old coaches of express trains between Silchar Guwahati as well as other local trains. Chakraborty further said that Agartala bound Jan Shatabdi Express should be extended to Silchar instead of Khorsong as decided initially.
