DOOMDOOMA: The World Population Day, as the name suggests, is a day celebrated globally on July 11 every year to raise awareness on population issues and the challenges faced by the countries and the provinces in ensuring health and well-being of their citizens. Started in 1987, World Population Day has gained much popularity with support from governments, UN agencies, various development organizations, civil society bodies and masses across the world.

In view of World Population Fortnight being observed from June 27 to July 24 under Mission Pariwar Vikas Campaign, Tinsukia District Health Society flagged off the Saarthi Van on Tuesday in collaboration with ADRA NGO from the office premises of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Tinsukia. DC Narsingh Pawar flagged off the Saarthi Van in presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) Dipu Deka, Joint Director (Health), Dr Romen Sonowal, officials and members from ADRA NGO and other District Health Officials.

Every year on July 11, global health organizations and governments recognize World Population Day. It is an opportunity to advocate for population and development needs. Promotional activities like 'Saas bahu Sammelans', mobile publicity vans, and advocacy meetings are undertaken to increase awareness in high fertility Mission Parivar Vikas districts.

The Saarthi Van will move in the pocket areas of all the four health blocks for awareness generation. Saarthi Van is a smartly designed van equipped with interactive communication devices like mike set up, IEC or publicity materials, FP commodities. The entire district should be covered through this van during the span of 15 days of World Population Fortnight.
