BARPETA: A black Himalayan Bear was trapped through baiting and the animal was lying in an injured condition. Local villagers informed the matter to the personnel of Bhunyapara Forest Range under the Manas National Park. On receipt of the information, a team of SSB 27 Bn along with Forest officials of the Bhunyapara Range immediately rushed to the spot. On reaching the spot, the team members along with local villagers found that the bear is enlisted in the Schedule-1 species under the Wildlife Protection Act-1972.

The animal trapped in an iron shackle was lying amidst a paddy field in Kamapara Village in Rajabil under Salbari Police Station in Baksa District. First, the Forest officials tranquillized the animal from a distance. Then they rescued the bear in a special vehicle the Bansbari Forest Range where the veterinary officers are postedAfter due treatment, the animal was released in the deep forest.

On enquiry, it was learnt that this Schedule 1 animal was injured for the last four days. The rescue operation was conducted under the direction of Commandant Abhishekh Anand from 09 am to 10 am on December 4.
