LAKHIMPUR: Two more COVID-19 patients were detected in Lakhimpur district on Sunday. They have been identified as Upen Rajkhowa (26) of Tinikuriya village, Biswajit Sarmah (28), resident of Water Resources Colony, Ward No. 6 in North Lakhimpur town. As per report, both persons are the employees of North East Small Finance Bank, situated at Gogamukh. They have no travel history apart from their attendance at the office. Upen Rajkhowa attended his office on July 3 last while Biswajit Sarmah did the same on July 2. The swab samples of both persons were collected on July 2 and the test result was reported positive for coronavirus on Sunday.

The District Health Department collected the swab sample of an old man who died due to fever on Saturday night at 1.00 pm. The person is known as Ram Bilash Kalita (70), resident of No. 3 Rangajan under Simaluguri area of the district. At present his body has been kept at North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. Post mortem will be performed on his body, if the swab test result is reported positive for coronavirus. On the other hand, ADC of Lakhimpur cum Dhakuakhana SDO Arindam Baruah declared Gharmora village under the subdivision as containment zone and the area located at the 500 meter radius of the village as buffer zone. He also issued order declaring the closure of all the markets and shops located at Gandhia Tiniali.

Notably, a person living at Gharmora village under Gandhia area named Raghu Baruah was detected positive for coronavirus on Saturday. He went to Guwahati few days back on medical purpose and willingly gave his swab for COVID-19 test after coming back home. Then he had kept himself quarantined staying on the first floor of his building while the rest eight members of the family lived on the ground floor of the same building. It was reported that one of the family members of his family visited the market at Gandhia Tiniali. Under such circumstances, Dhakuakhana SDO declared the village containment zone and closure of all the market and shops located at Gandhia Tiniali to ensure the safety of public health and to check the community transmission of COVID-19 in the area.
