TINSUKIA: The Coal Mines Pension Holders’ Association (CMPHA) of North Eastern Coalfields, an affiliate of All India Co-ordination Committee of Coal Pensioners’ and Retired Employee Association, Kolkata, has strongly opposed launching of ‘Defined Contributory Pension Scheme’ for retired executives of CIL on April 1 at Kolkata HO by the Ministry of Coal, depriving retired employees and workers of their legitimate rights.

In a press release, the CMPHA, while condemning the discriminatory attitude of the CIL, stated that it extended two pensions for executives and only one for miners and employees. The release issued by NC Mazumder, secretary CMPHA, Margherita also questioned the legitimacy of launching the scheme which amounted to gross violation of Model Code of Conduct. Mazumder has sought immediate intervention of Election Commission of India. The retired employees of CIL get pension Rs 350/500/600/1000 per month with 1.72 lakh and 2.36 lakh pensioners getting pension below Rs 1000 and Rs 5000 respectively under CMPS-98 scheme which was not indexed with price level, the release added.
