GUWAHATI: “If any systematic change is needed in the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), we will bring about this change,” said State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu.

While talking to media persons in Guwahati today, the Education Minister said, “From next year onwards, the question papers of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) will not be sent to the in-charge of the examination centres because this year, the question papers were leaked by the exam centre in-charge. The government will meet all stakeholders concerned to come up with a new question paper distribution system.”

When quipped about the demand made by various organizations, including the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), about reforms in SEBA, the minister said, “Teachers, students and their guardians- all must reform themselves because teachers had leaked the questions papers, students had bought the question papers and their guardians had given them money to buy the leaked question papers. Reforms will first be needed in this sector. If there is any irregularity in the SEBA, we will resolve the issue. Our focus should be to protect our education system from corruption and malpractices.”

SEBA had to postpone the HSLC examination of the General Science subject this year after the question paper was leaked. SEBA also decided to reschedule the examination of MIL/English (IL) subjects. The three masterminds of the question paper leak - Pranab Dutta, Prasanna Das and Kumud Rajkhowa were arrested in Lakhimpur.
