Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have appointed Ajinkya Rahane as their captain for the upcoming IPL season. The team will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the tournament opener on March 22 at Eden Gardens.
Rahane previously played for KKR in 2022 and is now set for a leadership role. Expressing his excitement, he said, "It’s an honour to lead KKR. We have a strong squad, and I look forward to the challenge of defending our title."
KKR secured Rahane for Rs 1.50 crore at last year’s mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The franchise also made headlines by repurchasing all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for Rs 23.75 crore.
Venkatesh Iyer, who has been with KKR since 2021, has been named the vice-captain. His appointment reflects the franchise's trust in his abilities and potential.
