A massive avalanche hit Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Friday, trapping 55 people under the snow. The incident occurred near Mana village, affecting a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) project.
Over the last 24 hours, rescue teams managed to save 47 workers. However, as of Saturday morning, 8 workers remain trapped under the snow. Efforts are ongoing despite challenges.
The avalanche has blocked the road leading to the site, making relief operations difficult. Rescue teams, including ITBP, SDRF, and NDRF, are working to reach the affected area.
The trapped workers were in their bunkers when the avalanche struck around 7:15 am on Friday. They were engaged in clearing the route for a BRO road project between Mana village and Mana Pass.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who assured full support from the central government to manage the crisis and assist in rescue operations.
Among the 55 trapped workers, 14 are from Bihar, 11 each from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, 7 from Himachal Pradesh, 1 each from Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, and 10 from Nepal.
