According to reports, Meta-owned Instagram is testing a new feature that will allow users to "dislike" comments.
There have been no official announcements about the feature's rollout, but many Instagram users have reported seeing the downward arrow next to the like heart in the comments section.
The feature appears to function similarly to the Reddit downvote button, but many people are against it because they believe it promotes bullying and negativity.
Users criticized the button by sharing screenshots of the comments section, which included the newly added down arrow. Several Instagrammers who criticized the new feature are concerned that it could worsen mental health issues among young people.
However, a Meta spokesperson clarified that the new feature allows people to privately indicate that they are dissatisfied with a specific comment. This means that the new button could assist content creators in managing and reducing toxic or harsh comments on their posts.
According to reports, a Meta spokesperson said the company is "working on ways to help people better control their Instagram experience and what they're seeing on the app."
