The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued new guidelines for foodtech platforms to address rising complaints about online food products. The aim is to improve consumer safety and transparency.
Delivery staff must be trained in proper food handling, transportation, and hygiene practices to minimise contamination risks.
Food and non-food items must be transported separately. Platforms must display FSSAI licence numbers for all sellers, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Quick-commerce platforms are required to verify all product claims with physical labels. Misleading or unverified claims are strictly prohibited.
Food products must retain at least 30% of their shelf life at the time of delivery. Platforms must also display hygiene ratings prominently for informed consumer decisions.
