The Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu announced a 50% airline fare cut for passengers traveling to the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. The new fares take effect from today (February1).
This decision came after the government held three meetings with airlines and directed them to lower ticket prices.
Airfares to Prayagraj increased rapidly during the ongoing Mahakumbh. However, the government has ensured that airlines won’t face losses from the fare cut, as per media reports.
The DGCA approved 81 extra flights in January, increasing the total flights to and from Uttar Pradesh's holy city to 132. As per the updated flight prices on January 27, one-way flight fares to Prayagraj or Ayodhya ranged from ₹22,000 to ₹28,000.
According to news reports, 90 million people gathered at the Maha Kumbh Mela on January 29. On the same day, millions of people gathered at the Maha Kumbh Mela to bathe at the Sangam which is the sacred meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, in celebration of Mauni Amavasya.
