Born on Jan 9, 2000, Assam’s ace sprinter Hima Das hails from Kandhulimari village near Dhing in Nagaon
She did her schooling from Dhing Public High School with a special interest in sports and football. Mentor Shamsul Hoque convinced Hima in 2011 to take up sprint running professionally.
Hima participated at the State Championships in Guwahati winning a Bronze medal in the 100m race.
Hima surprised everyone by making to the finals of 100m race Junior National Championships, Coimbatore
Her sprint career began in April when she participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia. She finished sixth.
In November 2018, Hima was appointed as India’s first ever youth ambassador of UNICEF-India.

At the 2018 Asian Games, Jakarta, she won gold 400m individual race setting a new national record of 51 seconds, gold in the 4x100m women’s relay, and a silver medal in the 4×400m mixed relay (upgraded to Gold now)
She is the 2nd athlete from Assam after Bhogeswar Baruah to win a gold medal at an International event, Hima is the sports brand ambassador of Assam.
The Bannerghatta Biological Park named a tigress cub as 'Hima' to honour her.
Hima has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, 2021, scheduled to be held from 23rd July to 8th August this year. She has her eyes set on an Olympic Medal in 2021.
