Sentinel Digital Desk

India is set to launch its own large language model (LLM), similar to ChatGPT and DeepSeek. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the AI model will be ready in 10 months, marking a major step towards self-reliance in AI.

The AI model will be designed to meet India’s unique needs, including support for multiple languages and cultural contexts. The government has been working with startups, researchers, and professors to build a model free from biases.

India has secured 18,600 GPUs, exceeding its initial target of 10,000. These high-performance GPUs, including NVIDIA H100, H200, and MI325 models, will be crucial in training the AI system efficiently.

To boost AI innovation, the government has introduced a common computing facility. This will provide AI startups, developers, and researchers with access to powerful infrastructure for model development.

Currently, six major developers are working on India’s AI model. The first versions are expected to be ready within 4 to 10 months, bringing India closer to AI independence.

India’s AI initiative aims to strengthen technological growth, support multiple Indian languages, and ensure data security. This marks a major milestone in India's journey to becoming a global AI leader.
