India's star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a back injury from the final Test against Australia. This marks his second injury-related miss of an ICC tournament in five years, after the 2022 T20 World Cup.

The BCCI announced late Tuesday that fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. Harshit Rana will replace him in the squad.

Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy earned a spot in the squad after his strong T20I performance. Chakravarthy, who stunned England by taking 14 wickets in five T20Is, was rewarded with an ODI call-up in Cuttack, where he picked up 1/54.

Varun Chakaravarthy replaces Yashasvi Jaiswal in India's squad, with Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, and Shivam Dube named as non-traveling substitutes. They will join the team in Dubai if needed, the BCCI stated.

Bumrah's absence is a big blow for India ahead of the Champions Trophy, which they won in 2002 and 2013. Widely seen as the world's best bowler, he starred in India's 2024 T20 World Cup win, taking 15 wickets at an 8.26 average.

Despite India's 3-1 series loss in Australia, Bumrah carried the bowling attack, delivering one of the best Test performances there. He took 32 wickets in nine innings at an astonishing 13.06 average.
