Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut ‘unconditionally’ apologized to lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar for making ‘defamatory’ remarks linking his name to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
According to Ranaut's statement recorded in the Bandra Chief Judicial Magistrate court, she said that whatever she stated on July 19, 2020, in her interview with Arnab Goswami was "a result of misunderstandings."
The MP from Mandi, Ranaut, has fully taken back her statements against Akhtar, which she made in the interview, and also promised not to repeat them in the future.
As a result, Akhtar agreed to withdraw his complaint against Ranaut. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate AK Awari accepted the settlement between both parties and closed the pending defamation case.
In his complaint, Akhtar described himself as self-made, arriving in Mumbai on October 4, 1964, with just ₹27, two pairs of clothes, and a few books. He was 19 years old at the time.
In a 57-minute interview, Akhtar claimed that Ranaut shared her opinions about Rajput's death without any direct personal knowledge. He also stated that she made defamatory remarks about him during the interview.
