The ongoing Maha Kumbh has witnessed over 10 crore pilgrims taking a holy dip in the Sangam since its commencement on January 13, according to the Uttar Pradesh government.
On Thursday alone, over 35 lakh devotees, including 10 lakh kalpwasis, participated in the sacred bath. Earlier, major bathing days like Paush Purnima and Makar Sankranti saw record turnouts of 1.65 crore and 3.5 crore devotees, respectively.
The Maha Kumbh is expected to attract more than 45 crore visitors, with the early milestone of 10 crore bathers affirming the state government's projections of unprecedented participation.
Devotees from across the world, including the US, Canada, Germany, Russia, Australia, and Malaysia, have arrived, turning the tent city into a vibrant global village along the banks of the Ganga.
Beyond the religious rituals, the Mela showcases India's rich cultural heritage. Pilgrims of all backgrounds unite under the Maha Kumbh's theme of unity and spiritual harmony.
Spanning 4,000 hectares, the Mela area accommodates over 1.6 lakh tents, hosting seers, sadhus, kalpwasis, and devotees, making it the largest religious gathering in the world.
