FIFA has officially named Saudi Arabia as the host nation for the 2034 men's football World Cup. This marks the second time a Middle Eastern country will host the tournament, following Qatar's successful staging in 2022.
The decision highlights the region’s growing influence in football, with Saudi Arabia set to welcome the world 12 years after Qatar hosted a memorable edition where Argentina claimed victory.
FIFA also confirmed that the 2030 World Cup will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with special celebratory matches in South American countries—Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay—to mark the tournament’s 100th anniversary.
The 2030 edition will begin with a match in Uruguay, honoring the country that hosted the first-ever World Cup in 1930. Additional games will be held in Argentina and Paraguay before the tournament continues in the main co-hosting nations.
Both the 2030 and 2034 World Cups had single bids, making their selection straightforward. FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the decisions during a virtual extraordinary Congress.
