Studies have long shown the health benefits of drinking coffee in moderation. However, recent research published in the European Heart Journal suggests that the timing of your coffee consumption could maximize these benefits.
The study, led by Tulane University researchers, tracked 40,725 participants for nearly a decade. It found that people who drank coffee only in the morning (between 4 am and 11:59 am) experienced significant health benefits compared to those who spread their coffee intake throughout the day.
Drinking coffee in the afternoon or evening may disrupt circadian rhythms and melatonin levels, increasing the risk of cardiovascular problems. This could explain why all-day coffee drinkers didn't see the same benefits as morning drinkers.
The research confirms that moderate coffee consumption does not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and may even lower the risk of chronic illnesses like type 2 diabetes. Timing appears to play a crucial role in amplifying these effects.
