Uber has launched Saarthi, a private car rideshare service in Assam. Competing with Ola and Rapido, this marks a major shift in India’s taxi industry.

Uber introduced Saarthi at the Advantage Assam summit, signing an MoU with the state government. This follows Assam’s 2023 decision to allow private cars as taxis.

Uber plans to invest ₹120 crore in Assam over the next three years, aiming to create 20,000 livelihood opportunities across the state.

Uber will onboard women and army veterans, offering them a flexible way to earn by providing rides through the Uber app.

India's taxi industry is facing driver shortages. Uber believes that allowing private vehicles can help meet demand and improve ride availability.

Those who join the platform will go through a background check.  Both riders and drivers will have access to Uber's technology-driven safeguards, which include a 24x7 Safety Line, phone number anonymization, and an in-app emergency button.
