Millions of devotees have gathered in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, for the Maha Kumbh Mela, the world’s largest religious event. The festival, which began on January 13, will conclude on February 26.
A viral video shows an entrepreneur offering a unique ‘digital snan’ (holy dip) service for Rs 1,100. Devotees send their photos via WhatsApp, and the service promises to dip a photocopy of their image in the sacred waters.
Deepak Goyal, the man behind the ‘digital snan’ service, claims he visits the Sangam regularly and ensures the photos are immersed within 24 hours of payment.
While some found the service interesting, many social media users criticized it. They accused the entrepreneur of exploiting people's faith and devotion for money.
So far, over 58 crore people have taken a holy dip at Triveni Sangam. The number is expected to cross 65 crore before the Maha Kumbh Mela ends on February 26.
