India and England cricket teams wore green armbands during the third ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday to support the BCCI's "Donate Organs, Save Lives" campaign.
The BCCI confirmed in a statement that both teams took part in the initiative, which was led by ICC Chairman and former BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Shah officially launched the campaign earlier this week and announced it on the social media platform X on Monday.
On February 12th, during the 3rd ODI between India and England, the "Donate Organs, Save Lives" campaign was launched. The initiative encourages people to pledge organ donation, emphasizing that one decision can save multiple lives.
Prominent Indian cricketers, including Virat Kohli and vice-captain Shubman Gill, supported the initiative.
Kohli said in a BCCI video, "Score the ultimate century. Your organs can help others live beyond your lifetime. Register as a donor and make every life count." Gill expressed, "Be the captain of life. Just as a captain leads a team to victory, you can give someone the gift of life by pledging to donate your organs."
Indian batters Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul also supported the campaign with their messages. Iyer said, "One donor can save up to eight lives. Pledge today and hit a six for humanity."
