Millions of devotees are coming to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj to take a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam.
However, a 300-kilometer traffic jam has disrupted the city, trapping thousands of devotees in an endless line of cars.
On Sunday, many people traveling to the world's largest religious event were left stranded in their cars, hundreds of kilometres from their intended destination.
Devotees from Varanasi, Lucknow, and Kanpur have been stuck in traffic for up to 48 hours, with some taking 10-12 hours to travel just 50 kilometers. Congestion has overwhelmed both local authorities and travelers, causing chaos throughout the region.
Thousands of cars, mostly from the southern states and Maharashtra, were stranded and could only move at a snail's pace on Sunday due to heavy traffic.
Police in several districts of neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, including Katni, Maihar, and Rewa, said it was "impossible to move" to Prayagraj due to a traffic jam that stretched for 200 to 300 kilometers.
