SILCHAR: Assam Rifles has earned the distinction of being a friend of people and standing by them in all crises and calamities besides being an indomitable force to beat the anti-national and disruptive elements. During the Covid 19 pandemic, it has not lagged behind. As the lockdown moves on in its third phase, the poor, needy and, most importantly, physically impaired are hard hit without resources and means to keep them kicking and going and find it extremely difficult to make both ends meet.

In consonance with the motto of Assam Rifles 'Friends of the North East', 37 Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ 22 sector and HQ IGAR (East), reached out to the widows and physically handicapped persons of Labac tea estate by providing packets of essential commodities. Each packet has rice, wheat flour, pulses, sugar, tea and milk. Moved by the generous and kind help of the Assam Rifles, the beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude how it will keep them in good spirit. Assam Rifles has assured them of more help.

Sanjib Singh Pundir, manager of Labac tea estate, who was behind the arrangement of the humanitarian works profusely thanked Assam Rifles. The manager distributed a lot of masks among the tea workers of the estate. The programme was arranged maintaining social distance, faces covered with masks and in observance of other specified guidelines. It is significant that no positive case has been reported from any of the 113 tea estates of the valley.
