The Communist Party of India's Assam State Committee under the leadership of CPI Assam Secretary Munin Mahanta, Secretary of the Assam unit of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Ramen Das, staged a protest in Guwahati on Monday and demanded a roll back of the hike in fuel prices.

The Committee has also demanded better COVID-19 protective gear, including masks and gloves, for the sanitary workers and cleaning staff of the state. The protesters also demanded a repeal of the Centre's decision to club as many as 40 labour laws together and asked the government to put an immediate stop to the laying off of employees by several firms amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Interestingly, the members of the committee were seen strictly adhering to the social distancing guidelines and made circles in front of their Rajgarh Office from where they raised their voices of dissent.
