Leopard killed; one person injured at Nagrijuli

TAMULPUR: Sensation prevailed when a leopard entered village Ikrabil along the Indo-Bhutan border in Nagrijuli area in the district of Baksa.

On Saturday at about 10.30 AM, some persons saw a leopard moving in the village Ikrabil and they informed the villagers. Getting the information, a numbers of villagers rushed to the spot and created a noisy environment. The leopard took shelter under some bushes. Local persons Nagrijuli police and Kumarikata forest range office.

Receiving the information, police and forest officials rushed to the spot and gheraoed the spot. But the villagers went out of control and tried to attack the leopard by throwing stones and bamboo sticks. Suddenly the leopard came out of the bushes and tried to run away. It attacked a person named Ismail Soren. Finally, after a lot of effort, the leopard was caught by the public. The leopard was seriously injured. It was later shifted to Kumarikata forest range office. Unfortunately, the leopard succumbed to its injuries.

The forest department arranged it for post-mortem and later it was buried. Some sections of people have criticized the forest department for failing to catch the leopard alive.
